~What we do
The whole thing started when some of us arrived to study at the University of Southampton in 2006. This is when Maciej Wojcik decided to find out if there were any other Poles studying at the Uni. Like every ECS student, he simply spent hours on his computer typing in any possible Polish names into Outlook and he started to email random people encouraging them to meet up. So after a month or two, there was already a small group of us, just simply having together, enjoying Polish food and celebrating traditions. As there were more and more people joining in, including some lecturers, we decided to turn the group of friends into a society. And so we managed! We are a socially and nationally orientated society. We basically celebrate all the events that are, for different reasons, important in the Polish culture. We often meet up just to have fun together while enjoying Polish food and drinks (not such a big problem to buy them in England nowadays!). We also have in mind to organise regular Polish Cinematography evenings on the campus. The room and projector will be booked to show you the good, classic Polish movies (with English subtitles). Apart from that, we are happy to organise trips to participate in various Polish events such as going to concerts and joining the upcomming election (ekhm..!). Also, we are going to cooperate with the Student Recruit and Outreach Centre (!!!) and some Trade Unions in order to organise events and provide information to Polish people of different age who think about studying at the University. So there you go.. these are our aims put rather generally...! For more details just keep checking the Forthcomming Events section. And always feel free to email any member of the committe if you have any ideas or suggestions! Also last important thing- SUPS is not exclusively for Polish people!! We will always make sure that non-polish speakers can enjoy all the events just as much as the Poles!
